JVATiTD is published by the Center for the Study of Venoms and Venomous Animals (CEVAP), a research unit of the São Paulo State University (UNESP). CEVAP’s main research field is toxinology, which means the study of toxins produced by venomous or poisonous animals, plants and microorganisms with the purpose of understanding their mode of action on targets.

More specifically, the research carried out in this center is focused on the biochemical composition and proteomics of snake toxins and bee venoms in order to understand their interaction with other life forms (particularly humans), develop antidotes and explore their pharmacological potential. Therefore, the projects developed at CEVAP have deep connections with biochemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology.

Considering the impact of toxin-based deaths globally, and the potential of venom in generation of drugs for so-far incurable diseases (for example, diabetes, chronic pain), the continued research and growth of the field is forthcoming. This is the gap that CEVAP aims to bridge, from bench to bedside.
